PR software vs. press portals - what is the difference and which ones are available?

01/16/2023 | by Patrick Fischer, M.Sc., Founder & Data Scientist: FDS

The main difference between PR software and press portals is that PR software is a tool that helps companies, agencies and other organizations optimize and manage their online and offline PR activities. It can help target messages to the right people, manage campaigns, publish and track messages, and create comprehensive reports.

Press portals, on the other hand, are websites specifically designed for press release publishing, where companies, organizations, and other groups can publish and distribute their news. There are many different press portals, some of which offer more features than others, but all of which offer basic functions such as press release publishing, distribution, and tracking.

Are press releases free of charge?

01/13/2023 | by Patrick Fischer, M.Sc., Founder & Data Scientist: FDS
No, as a rule press releases are not free of charge. However, there are some free press portals where you can publish press releases. However, it is likely that the majority of your target audience will not visit these sites regularly, so you will usually have to pay for a professional press release.

How good are free press distribution lists?

01/11/2023 | by Patrick Fischer, M.Sc., Founder & Data Scientist: FDS
Free press distribution lists can be a good way to reach some interested readers at a low cost. However, free press distribution lists are not able to provide broad, targeted distribution because they usually have a limited number of users who have signed up for the subscription. Therefore, they are not as effective as paid press distribution lists.
